Bausep
Since 2004 bausep is selling building materials online and therefore counts to one of the first online shops in this area. Their sister company was founded in the 1960s as a local building materials seller in Heidersbach. By selling their products online they also made their knowledge available for everyone throughout Germany. More than 100.000 products are available online and can be delivered not only to the customer’s home but also directly to their construction site.
The basic requirement of the migration project was to migrate the functionality of the shop based on Magento 1 to the Magento 2 platform. This included the basic integrations such as the payment modules, Elasticsearch or Trusted Shops. In addition, individual in-house developments from Magento 1 such as the SEO module with individual configurations, the address validation logic, the various registration routes for different customer groups, the blog, the feeds or the logic for calculating quantities and prices had to be re-evaluated and implemented adequately in the Magento 2 context.
In addition, all Magento 1 data such as order and customer data, redirects, reviews and product questions had to be migrated from the Magento 1 system to the new Magento 2 system.
The architecture of Magento 2 also resulted in some optimization approaches and options for functional expansion, so that not only the migration but also numerous additional functions were provided.
In addition, the ERP system had to be connected, which in this case is done via Magento 2 REST API.
The new online store got a complete redesign with a clear focus on optimal product presentation on both category and detail pages. Thanks to appealing product images and icons, individual brands can be showcased even more effectively. With the help of PageBuilder as a powerful content creation tool, bausep can easily and independently create and revise content. Furthermore, numerous process and usability optimizations were made and functions expanded. These include:
- Final price calculator on the product page
- Easy selection of variant items and adding products to the shopping cart - for simple products also from the catalog pages
- Shipment tracking for various service providers
- Different types of Avis in the checkout
- Possibility for item-related reorders via the customer account
- Reduction of checkout steps from 4 to 2 with M2 standard checkout
- Use of new elements for content pages, e.g. to show info pages such as the help center
- Mobile-first approach
