Recap: Office Opening and Magento Stammtisch in Berlin

On November 29th, 2023 the time had finally come: the doors to our new office in Berlin were opened for the first time to colleagues, their families, customers and the Magento Community. We celebrated the office opening and ended the evening with our first Magento Stammtisch in Berlin. We look back on an exciting day.

After sufficient time for planning, renovation and furnishing, the colleagues were finally able to inspect the new office and show their families their workplace, which is a popular alternative to working from home. All employees at PHOENIX MEDIA can work mobile and organize this 100% flexibly. Nevertheless, people like to take advantage of the opportunity to work together, which is why it was important to us in Berlin to provide a central office that is well connected to public transport.

The open and spacious room concept offers plenty of space for collaboration in a pleasant and bright environment. Nevertheless, separate rooms also provide opportunities for retreat so that you can concentrate on working in a quiet atmosphere. The new Berlin office is not only a physical space for work, but also a symbol of innovation and growth. It should be a place where new ideas are developed, existing projects are advanced and partnerships are strengthened.

The evening was rounded off with cool drinks, delicious snacks and lots of exciting conversations at our first Magento Stammtisch in Berlin with two informative talks.

At the beginning, Stephan Schulze, CTO and MD of Project A, addressed the question of which metrics are suitable for measuring the performance of software engineering teams. This is a question that is being asked more and more frequently, especially in the age of efficiency. Should it be lines of code produced, velocity, features shipped, commits per day... or something completely else? In his talk, Stephan Schulze looked at both the business and technical perspectives and presented various approaches for the future. In the second talk, Giuseppe Iannello, Director of Engineering at Lampenwelt, gave insights into the Lampenwelt Adobe Commerce stack and its solutions for achieving healthy DORA metrics, in order to at the same time answer the question of how Adobe Commerce can be used as a comprehensive, inseparable application can be brought into line with modern development and operating practices. Thanks to everyone who shared or contributed to this eventful day with us. It was a complete success and a great start to many joint events, projects and team events in a beautiful new office.
