The Magento Stammtisch is the ultimate event within the Magento community and offers like-minded people the opportunity to exchange views on current Magento topics. After a long break - partly due to the Corona pandemic - it was time to bring the MeetUp back to Stuttgart and, above all, to finally meet again in person.
On July 6th, the time had come: We were able to welcome numerous guests to our headquarter in Stuttgart. In order to make the event available to an even larger audience, we also decided to broadcast it live at the same time.
A top-class speaker line-up
For the long-awaited revival of the Magento Stammtisch in Stuttgart, we left no stone unturned to organize a top-class speaker line-up and put the best topics on the agenda. And we were more than happy that we succeeded in doing so. With Christian Münch, Head of Development at netz98, Vinai Kopp, Technical Director at Hyvä Themes, and Peter Jaap Blaakmeer, CTO at elgentos, we were able to find three well-known people from the Magento scene to join our event.
Cypress - The testing framework to go
Our first speaker of the evening was Peter Jaap Blaakmeer, who joined us virtually and live from the Netherlands. Peter has been working with Magento since the first versions in 2008. His talk was dedicated to Cypress & Testing. Today, end-to-end testing is an effective method to ensure the highest level of user experience, security and stability of online shops. This makes it possible to determine in no time at all whether a new software version can really do what it promises.
Cypress is currently one of the most popular testing frameworks that simplify the setup and writing, execution, and debugging of end-to-end tests. With the help of the free Magento 2 Cypress Testing Suite for desktop and mobile, which supports the standard Luma frontend from Adobe Commerce (powered by Magento), Magento Open Source as well as the popular Hyvä theme, users can easily and conveniently develop and run tests themselves.
Curious now? We have made the full-length video available to you on YouTube.
Hyvä Themes - Brand new frontend for Magento 2
Second in line was Vinai Kopp. He has been working with Magento since 2008 as well - as a developer, trainer and mentor. Accordingly, it is impossible to imagine the Magento Community without him. Since 2021, he has been Technical Director at Hyvä Themes B.V. Hyvä is a brand-new frontend for Magento 2 that promises maximum performance, a fast time-to-market, and excellent DevExperience.
It makes it possible to create online stores based on Magento 2 even faster and more efficiently. In his presentation, Vinai revealed, among other things, what has been done in the last 12 months and what improvements and innovations have been made. He also took a look at the roadmap: Where is the journey of Hyvä going? What's next? The answers to these questions can be found in the recording.
Why quality is the essential thing in Magento projects
How important is quality within Magento online shop projects? How can quality be defined at all and what are the financial consequences of errors? Christian Münch's presentation was all about quality. Christian loves and lives Magento. And you can see and feel that immediately. He programmed the worldwide known and popular Magento tool "Magerun", runs the Magento developer blog "dev98.de" and is one of the Magento Top 50 Contributors. Of course, we also recorded Christian's presentation and made it available for you.
Magento 2 in Kubernetes
The last presentation of the evening was held by Björn Kraus. The focus here was on Kubernetes. Why do we at PHOENIX MEDIA actually rely on Kubernetes Cluster Hosting? What are the unbeatable advantages and the added value? What are the entry hurdles other companies face when it comes to using Kubernetes in their daily work? Many exciting questions had to be answered. As a highlight, there was also a live demo. Check out the whole session on YouTube.
