Just in time for the new year, the next Magento release is already in the starting blocks. As always, Magento Commerce 2.4.2 not only brings improvements in terms of performance and security, but also new functionalities that retailers can look forward to from February 9, 2021. In the following we will tell you which feature highlights the new Magento version has in store.
B2B-Edition
More flexibility in the B2B area: Individual orders can now be completed using any payment method. When checking out, the preferred payment method for each order is requested. Once approved, buyers can then enter additional payment details. To ensure a smooth and complete workflow at this point, the feature still enables the following:
- Overwriting existing payment method templates at first check out to maintain PCI conformity
- Compatibility of custom payment methods, which were developed by third party or community
- Email notifying the buyer if payment details need to be added to an approved order
- Customizing of emails by the admin. This enables retailers to use templates that match their branding
- Introduction of an "Approved" and "Pending" payment status for orders to indicate when further action is required
- Discount codes cannot be added or removed in the final payment step, which ensures that the total amount for approved orders remains unchanged
- Buyers can change the payment method during the final payment step. This guarantees flexibility and increases the conversion rate
Magento PWA Studio
With the PWA Studio, Magento Commerce offers a completely decoupled front-end that is supported by extensive back-end technologies. With this innovative technology, Magento provides merchants with an integrated e-commerce solution that enables app-like shopping experiences via mobile and desktop devices and, as a result, increases user interactions and the conversion rate.
In addition to performance optimizations, the new release for the PWA Studio primarily brings improvements in terms of internationalization and localization. The Venia Storefront now supports several languages and currencies and contains new “My Account” components such as details on the order history, the address book and saved payments. The new Magento version also supports shop operators with multiple stores.
In-Product Guidance
With Magento Commerce 2.4.2, retailers can still look forward to interactive in-product instructions. It offers helpful tips via the admin user interface for better and more targeted use of the product. Among other things, content such as the announcement of new functions, instructions, onboarding information or tool tips will be available.
As always, you will find further information on the new features and improvements mentioned here in the release notes.
