Interview with Renate Strempfl
Please introduce yourself!
My name is Renate and I live with my husband, our two cats Flora and Fauna and many house plants in beautiful Vienna. After my studies, I made my first experiences in the area of e-commerce at the start-up markta.at and was able to gain a lot of valuable experience there. Since then, an agile mindset and an agile way of working have been particularly important to me, which is why I also worked as a Scrum Master afterwards. At PHOENIX MEDIA Austria I now have the opportunity to combine my experience from the areas of e-commerce and project management as well as my expertise as a Scrum Master - a perfect mix.
What exactly is your position here at PHOENIX MEDIA Austria? Can you tell me something about your daily work? What do you do and to what extent does that help the agency?
I am working as a project manager at PHOENIX MEDIA Austria. My everyday work usually begins with coffee, a look at my to-do list and processing the first customer inquiries. After I've gotten an overview, I directly start coordinating our customers' concerns with our development teams and, conversely, clarifying queries from our development teams to our customers. For optimal coordination within the teams, we use our stand-up, which takes place at the same time every day. In addition to daily coordination things, there are a variety of further tasks from testing the tickets to handling organizational issues. So it's always exciting. True to the agile idea, we also try to continuously improve our processes together with our customers. My notepad and my sticky notes are an integral part of my everyday work. All the most important notes and thoughts are recorded, edited and structured here.
Why did you decide to become a project manager?
Even as a child, I liked to make plans and then put them into action. Back then, of course, the topics were different than today, although the plan for a tree house could unfortunately not yet be realized ;) Through my work at markta.at, I have rediscovered how much I enjoy the implementation of projects and the interface role.
What qualities do you think you should have as a project manager? What is essential for the job and why?
As a project manager, I have a very responsible task: namely the coordination of the team so that the customer requirements can be implemented as efficiently as possible. As the interface between the customer and the development team, I see strong communication skills and transparency as particularly important characteristics of a good project manager. Of course, a pinch of assertiveness should not be missing, as well as trust in the team and empathy.
Which projects are you currently in charge of?
Together with my colleague Johannes, I am currently working on an exciting and complex project for one of our customers in Austria. We'll soon be able to tell you more exciting details.
How did you find out about PHOENIX MEDIA Austria?
I saw the position on LinkedIn and it made me curious directly. Then I applied.
What do you particularly like about PHOENIX MEDIA Austria?
I particularly appreciate the teamwork and the corporate culture. I also think it's really great that we have the opportunity to work remotely.
What do you love most about your job?
What I particularly like about my job is that it is very varied. New and exciting tasks await me every day. I also find the interface function particularly interesting.
How do you spend your leisure time?
I prefer to spend my free time in nature. Most often with walks in the Vienna Woods, swimming on the Danube or gardening on the terrace. But the culinary art shouldn’t be neglected either: As a person who enjoys eating, I love meeting up with friends to try out new restaurants. And Vienna also has a great offer here.
Your favorite place in the office?
What I particularly like about our office in Vienna is that it is very centrally located and in a beautiful old building. The office itself is really great, brand new and very stylish and open. You can meet me most often at my workplace or in front of the coffee machine. My favorite place is in front of the coffee machine. Because here there is always time for an informal exchange with colleagues and it smells of fresh coffee.
Your favorite place in Vienna and why?
One of my favorite places in Vienna is the Nussberg. Getting a fresh perspective is sometimes very helpful in getting a better understanding of priorities.
